In celebration of National School Counselor's Week, students at GPHS showed their appreciation and support with the counselors during the lunch periods by completing a counselor quiz and shooting hoops in hopes of receiving a gift (flash drive bracelets or ear buds). There was so much excitement; staff members also wanted to participate.

DAEP counselors promoted National School Counselor's Week with thank you treats to the faculty for "CHIP"ping in to help support our students, reminding them that problems may "POP" up and that counselors are here to help both students and staff and with "Hugs" and "Kisses" for their overall support of the counseling program.

We celebrated National School Counseling Week yesterday at DAEP by playing a quiz game with students, having students affirm their school counselors, and encouraging our staff to team up with our counselors to help students succeed.

Lee Elementary celebrates National School Counselors Week with guidance, a community service project (Letter of Love to the military) and lots of hugs and "kisses."

During National School Counseling Week, the counselors at Dubiski Career High School held a parent workshop for their 10th and 11th graders. The parent workshop informed both parents and students about PSAT scores, Dual Credit, AP classes and Career Cruising.

GPFAA NSCW
GPFAA celebrated the end of counselor's week by asking all students and staff to wear their favorite team shirt. Teamwork has been promoted all week in honor of our two counselors, Traci Bragg and Baneca Nyereyemhuka, who are the heart of the school.

Colin Powell Elementary had a great career day on Friday. The kids had a great time and learned about lots of different careers. Some even dressed up as teeth waiting to be brushed.

 

 

De Zavala Visits Jackson

On Thursday and Friday, 5th grade students from De Zavala ESA visited Jackson MS. The students met the principal, the counselors, the instructional media specialist, and some of the 8th grade students, who took them on a tour of the campus. Students were able to ask questions about the school and had an opportunityto visit different parts of the campus. Thank you, Mrs. Booth, for welcoming us to your campus.

GPFAA celebrates National School Counseling Week. The counselors have a daily challenge for students and staff. Monday started with “Be Kind to Another Person in the Building.” As a surprise, the counselors' doors were decorated to show appreciation for all they do.

SGP counselors kick off National School Counseling Week promoting South's new bully awareness initiative "South Grows Positive Warriors." Brandon Tran (10th) was the winner who designed the shirt during our school-wide T-shirt competition.

Bowie Career Day

A big thanks to Mr. Perez, counselor at Bowie, for organizing a Career Day full of excitement and learning. GP police officers, GP fire fighters, dietitians, accountants, GP librarians, state troopers and many more conducted sessions in our library to share their passion with our students. Our students’ take away was to be passionate about their future so that they can love what they do.

National School Counseling Week

February 1st - 5th is National School Counseling Week. School counselors work with students to remove barriers to learning by addressing students’ academic and socio-emotional concerns as well as career awareness options. Comprehensive school counseling programs help to increase student achievement and provide a much needed resource for students, parents, teachers and administrators. 

Don't forget to celebrate the contributions of your School Counselors. 

Gopher Showcase

Yesterday, Grand Prairie High School had its first Gopher Showcase for our current students and incoming 8th graders. We started at 5:30 p.m. with a parent meeting with Mr. Arendse, our principal. From 6 - 7:30 p.m., we allowed parents and students to walk around our showcase to ask questions and collect information from the various pathways, programs, clubs, and endorsements. Student performances were outstanding. Administrators were present to answer questions and direct our guests. Academic & CTE counselors were present to answer questions and pass out information regarding the different pathways and endorsements offered at GPHS, as well as discuss their graduation plan and this new idea of HB5. What is that really about? Great time was had by all. #GopherPride

 

De Zavala No Name Calling Week

De Zavala students and staff supported No Name Calling Week by wearing various colors throughout the week. The theme for Thursday was “Don’t give someone the blues by calling them names.” Today, “We are united against name calling” and wearing white.

SGP9 Career Day

SGP9 hosted two Career Friday speakers this past week. For our performing arts students, we had professional dancer and choreographer, Tina Menchaca. For our sports marketing and business students, we had Texas Rangers Baseball executive, Donnie Pordash. Students were able to meet in a smaller setting to receive information regarding the careers they are most interested in. We will continue our Career Friday series in April with graphic design, health care, law, finance, and more.

 

Careers on Wheels at Lee

Last week, Lee Elementary hosted “Careers on Wheels.” Professionals from various helping professions came out to speak with our students about their career and the importance of doing well in school.

 

 

SGP9 Warrior SPEARit Raises $2,700

The week before the Holiday break SGP9 Student Council and Friends of Rachel Club organized the Warrior Holiday SPEARit Week with all funds raised, a total of $2,700, going to Kidd’s Kids Kidd Kraddick Foundation.  Students and staff participated in a week long of giving ending with a student versus staff basketball game that included staff members being pied in the face by students all in the name of giving.  A special thank you to Jackson Middle School for inspiring one of our current freshmen for the wonderful idea to continue from their eighth grade year.  We are proud of our Warriors for accepting the Challenge to give! 

No Name Calling Week at De Zavala

Here at De Zavala, we are celebrating No Name Calling Week. Some of our KC Club members wrote their own daily announcements to be read each morning. Today is “Orange You Glad You Don’t Use Harmful Words.” Everyone was challenged to say two kind things to their teacher or friend.
