Ochoa Breakfast with a Twist
Counselors at Ellen Ochoa STEM invited parents for breakfast at Applebee's for a "Career Planning Workshop." Each student received a poster to participate in the GPISD Poster Contest. It was an amazing turnout.


Austin Goodies with Gilliam
Awesome Austin Elementary School had another successful Goodies with Gilliam Parenting Class. Guests included Ebony Jones, AVID Coordinator for Adams Middle School; Arletheia Clemmons, Community Liason from LEAP; Sandra Mejia, Assistant Principal; Tanya Gilliam, Principal; and Tonya Womack Campbell, counselor at Austin Elementary. Parents received information on AVID, campus activities, parent involvement, and making quality time a priority for families. Some 5th grade students also attended to learn about future college opportunites with AVID.

Jackson NSCW
Counselors at Jackson used School Counseling Week to advocate for their counseling program, as well as to show their appreciation to staff for teaming up with them to support students. Counselors used the message “Problems may POP up…when they do, see your school counselor” as a bulletin board theme, provided popcorn treats to all staff, and ran daily announcement providing students with the Recipe for Success.

Truman Middle School counselors were surprised with many colorful and creative notes of appreciation and thanks from students in honor of National School Counseling Week.

GP NSCW
In celebration of National School Counselor's Week, students at GPHS showed their appreciation and support with the counselors during the lunch periods by completing a counselor quiz and shooting hoops in hopes of receiving a gift (flash drive bracelets or ear buds). There was so much excitement; staff members also wanted to participate.

The staff and students at De Zavala showed the counselors love and appreciation with kind words, cards, donuts, and breakfast for National School Counseling Week. We LOVE what we do!



Adams NSCW
Adams counselors celebrated National School Counseling Week with small treats to the staff and students. Adams students and staff surprised the counselors with daily positive  affirmations and treats.

Dubiski counselors treated the staff to donuts and coffee for NSCW. Our counselors were treated to a variety of gifts and appreciation during the week. Dubiski loves our counselors!

Our teachers really make a difference when they "chip in" to help our students. Thank you so much for supporting our students.

DAEP NSCW
DAEP counselors promoted National School Counselor's Week with thank you treats to the faculty for "CHIP"ping in to help support our students, reminding them that problems may "POP" up and that counselors are here to help both students and staff and with "Hugs" and "Kisses" for their overall support of the counseling program.



DAEP NSCW
We celebrated National School Counseling Week yesterday at DAEP by playing a quiz game with students, having students affirm their school counselors, and encouraging our staff to team up with our counselors to help students succeed.

Lee NSCW
Lee Elementary celebrates National School Counselors Week with guidance, a community service project (Letter of Love to the military) and lots of hugs and "kisses."

Dubiski NSCW
During National School Counseling Week, the counselors at Dubiski Career High School held a parent workshop for their 10th and 11th graders. The parent workshop informed both parents and students about PSAT scores, Dual Credit, AP classes and Career Cruising.

GPFAA NSCW
GPFAA celebrated the end of counselor's week by asking all students and staff to wear their favorite team shirt. Teamwork has been promoted all week in honor of our two counselors, Traci Bragg and Baneca Nyereyemhuka, who are the heart of the school.

The Lee Elementary school counselors, alongside many other wonderful GPISD counselors, kick off National School Counseling Week at the Texas School Counseling Conference, dedicated to continual growth in order to further impact our students' lives.

In appreciation for all our colleagues do to support the GPHS counseling department, we decided to provide a mid-morning snack (300 bags of popcorn and assorted cookies) for the entire staff. Powell Career Day

Colin Powell Elementary had a great career day on Friday. The kids had a great time and learned about lots of different careers. Some even dressed up as teeth waiting to be brushed.

 

 


De Zavala Visits Jackson

On Thursday and Friday, 5th grade students from De Zavala ESA visited Jackson MS. The students met the principal, the counselors, the instructional media specialist, and some of the 8th grade students, who took them on a tour of the campus. Students were able to ask questions about the school and had an opportunityto visit different parts of the campus. Thank you, Mrs. Booth, for welcoming us to your campus.

 

 

 

 

National School Counseling Week

GPFAA NSCW

GPFAA celebrates National School Counseling Week. The counselors have a daily challenge for students and staff. Monday started with “Be Kind to Another Person in the Building.” As a surprise, the counselors' doors were decorated to show appreciation for all they do.

SGP counselors kick off National School Counseling Week promoting South's new bully awareness initiative "South Grows Positive Warriors." Brandon Tran (10th) was the winner who designed the shirt during our school-wide T-shirt competition.

Shout out to Grand Prairie professionals who shared with our Seguin Silver Spurs their experiences working with our community. 

 

Bowie Career Day

A big thanks to Mr. Perez, counselor at Bowie, for organizing a Career Day full of excitement and learning. GP police officers, GP fire fighters, dietitians, accountants, GP librarians, state troopers and many more conducted sessions in our library to share their passion with our students. Our students’ take away was to be passionate about their future so that they can love what they do.

Ready, Set, action! Bush Elementary students learn about arts, A/V technology & communications, and health science career clusters.

 

 

 

 

National School Counseling Week




February 1st - 5th is National School Counseling Week. School counselors work with students to remove barriers to learning by addressing students’ academic and socio-emotional concerns as well as career awareness options. Comprehensive school counseling programs help to increase student achievement and provide a much needed resource for students, parents, teachers and administrators. 

Don't forget to celebrate the contributions of your School Counselors.
