SGP Counselors Say Thank You

During the last month, the counselors at the middle schools rolled out the red carpet for the SGPHS counselors when meeting with current eighth graders for course registration. The middle school counselors not only prepared their students to meet with the high school counselors via Career Cruising, but also had snacks and goodies available for us during this busy time. SGPHS wants to send out a huge thank you to the counselors at Truman, Reagan, Jackson, YMLA, YWLA, HOPE, GPFAA, Fannin, Adams, and Johnson DAEP for their hospitality and customer service.

The GPFAA counselors held a Kick Butts poster contest to educate students about the harmful effects of cigarette smoking.  The new What-a-Burger location donated prizes for the winners:

3rd place – Alissa Norris and Kaylyn Langham
Honorable mention – Finn Maus & Isaiah Norris

Jackson Visits De Zavala

On Thursday, the counselors Mrs. Alarcon, Mrs. Hohnstreiter, and Mrs. Spruiell, along with the band director Mr. Ward, from Jackson Middle School visited with 5th graders at De Zavala to answer questions about the upcoming school year in middle school. Members of the band also displayed their amazing talents. Thank you for visiting with our students to give them more information about their 6th grade transition.


Congratulations Vi

Andrew Jackson Middle School would like to Congratulate Vi Tran. She has been selected to be a recipient of a $2,500 scholarship from the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation. Vi will be honored at the annual BBYF Scholarship Celebration to be held Sunday, April 2, 2017, located in the Lone Star Auditorium on the campus of the University of Texas at Arlington.

 

Career Art Project Winners

Travis World Language Academy is proud to represent GPISD in two categories, kindergarten and second grade, for the Career Art Contest. Now on to the GPISD Career and Technical Education Awards Banquet on April 11.

Mrs. Johnson's 2nd grade class from Eisenhower Elementary had a delicious Olive Garden lunch for their generous contribution to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.


Williams Parents Test Prep

Wonderful Williams provided parents with test-taking tips to prepare their students for the STAAR test. Parents received helpful information from counselor Tonya Womack Campbell and community liaison Rosanelda Foo. Parents were able to create encouraging affirmations to assist their student in staying calm and being prepared for testing.

Williams Thanks Counselors
The counselor at wonderful Williams wanted to give a big shout-out to the counselors of GPISD. They worked diligently at getting all their students ready for the next level of education. Elementary counselors delivered selection sheets to middle school counselors so that they could prepare for transition meetings with the high school counselors. The counselors showed their excitement in getting students from Cradle To Career in assisting them in the transition process.

Williams Donuts for Dad

Wonderful Williams Elementary School did it big with their Donuts for Dads/All-Pro Dads. Dads, Granddads, and Uncles came out to show their support for the students at Hobbs Williams. Students were very excited to have them here to guide them in their education.  Community Liaison Rosanelda Foo hosted, and counselor Tonya Womack Campbell was in attendance.

Students at Travis World Language Academy are gearing up for their next kindness project, "April Month of Service." Students will work on beautifying the school garden.


Travis Car Seat Inspection
TWLA hosted a Car Seat Safety Inspection for the local community and had a wonderful turn out from parents who were also excited to receive new car seats for their little ones.

Relaxation for the SAT & KC Club Food Drive

We hosted a relaxation session before the SAT today. The students left very calm and ready to conquer the test. Thank you to Counselor, Mrs. Blanca McGee for guiding us through the session.


Williams Food Drive
Wonderful Williams showed kindness to their community by hosting a canned food drive. The campus collected over 300 cans in just one week. The Kindness and Compassion Club and sponsors Ms. Saad, Robinson, Wirth, and Campbell helped kick off the event.  Winners of the canned food challenge from Ms. Salas' class received a popcorn and juice snack from their counselor Tonya Womack Campbell. Go, Wolves!

Career Awareness Poster Contest Winners for Moore Elementary.


Williams Yellow and Gold

Wonderful Williams staff (Donetta Norris, Sherrita Calvin-Robinson, and counselor Tonya Womack Campbell) show student academic support by wearing yellow and gold. The counselor encouraged everyone to wear these colors to reach for the stars and their academic goals. Ms. Laura Buss, 5th grade, also displays student performance charts to encourage students to increase their academic performances in core subjects. Go, Wolves!


Fannin Kindness

In honor of Random Acts of Kindness Week in February, Fannin's Rachel's Kindness Club members created cards and goodie bags for our awesome GPISD bus drivers. We appreciate their support and dedication to our activities and education. 


Travis Poster Contest
Counselor Lily Lopez proudly presents the campus winners for the Career Poster Contest from Kinder through 5th grade. These students will now compete at the district level for several Grand Prizes.
