Lee Blanket Drive
Lee Elementary’s KC Club hosted a blanket drive called, Covers for Kids. The blankets will be donated to homeless families in the community.

GPFAA Texas Tech
Representatives from Texas Tech University visited GPFAA to talk about college readiness. Students were told how to submit their applications and accompanying documents as well as applying for scholarships.

The Friends of Rachel's Club at Dubiski Career H.S.

The Friends of Rachel's Club at Dubiski Career H.S. assisted with "Home for the Holidays Food Drive" that serves our Dubiski families. We collected nonperishable goods for 7 families.

Austin Spreads Cheer
Awesome Austin Elementary had some holiday cheer brought to over 100 families by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Counselor Tonya Womack Campbell, along with Roshelle Moore (from the organization), worked to bring joy to Austin this year. Students got pictures with Santa, teddy bears, gifts, and treats to enjoy with their families.

Warrior Angel Tree
SGP staff members and student groups adopted students from the Warrior Angel Tree to help others have a great holiday season. SGP was very generous in all their donations.

SGP9 SPEARit
The students and staff at SGP9 were challenged to give this holiday season and collected 150 new toys via our Angel SPEARit Tree that were donated to WFAA’s Santa’s Helpers at their event at Don Davis Auto Group Tuesday evening. You can see our Big Green collection boxes in the background of Pete Delkus.

 

GPFAA Spreading the Joy
I just wanted share the spreading of kindness from our Try A Little Kindness Club-T.A.L.K. Club. They worked really hard to make ornaments/treats for the cafeteria workers and day custodians.

Goodies With Gilliam at Awesome Austin Elementary
Austin Elementary held its monthly parent involvement class on December 12.Parents learned about the role of the social worker and resources available through Ruth Amaro. Principal Tanya Gilliam informed parents of all the wonderful things going on at Austin. Assistant Principal Sandra Mejia translated all information for parents. Counselor Tonya Womack Campbell led the parent class on Boosting Your Child's Self-Esteem and a make-and-take project for children to express themselves using stress balls. Parents had fun and were engaged.

GP College Acceptance Letters
GP High AVID students Stanley Brown and Victoria Shelton helped CTE counselor Mrs. Swanigan put up senior's college acceptance and scholarship letters. They still have 100 more letters to put up. Victoria and Stanley will both be attending Texas Tech University in Fall 2016.

SGP9 Volunteering
AVID, Friends of Rachel and Mrs. Gilbert’s class volunteered at the North Texas Food Bank. This community service project was made possible by a grant from the Meadows Foundation.

Adams Spreading Cheer
Adams Middle School NHJS helped spread holiday cheer with giving back to their Salvation Army Christmas Angels and by sharing their talents at Mount Creek Retirement Living. NJHS knows how to spread PANTHERlove.

Crosswinds/HOPE 5th Annual Trip to Salvation Army
Crosswinds High School and HOPE Academy students participated in the Salvation Army’s annual Angel Tree Program. We loaded and unloaded presents for hundreds of families. Some students even got to shop in the Toy Workshop, picking out toys for little ones and their families. Awesome day!

GPFAA Art Giving Back
GPFAA’s art strand kids showed the importance of giving back this holiday season. They collected donations and gave them to Prairie Paws Animal Shelter during a special presentation on Thursday.

GP Financial Aid
Day two for GPHS counselors Mrs. Satcher and Mr. Burks, who presented three sessions today. Counselors guided seniors through the various components of the financial aid process, utilizing a technology-rich lesson. The total number of attendees was 57.

Moore Cheer

Some of the students from the KC Club and Honor Council from Sallye Moore Elementary spread holiday cheer at the Mt. Creek Retirement Center by singing Christmas carols. Afterwards, they passed out gifts to the residents and wished them a Merry Christmas.

Austin College and Career Fair

• Presenters were escorted to a continental breakfast by the 3rd grade Leadership Through Kindness club (LTK)
• They were then taken to the first of seven class sessions for their presentations
• Presenters included:
  • Dana Jackson–Director of Counseling Services for Grand Prairie ISD
  • Sgt.  Caleb Walker-United States Air Force recruiter/ Former military police (DFW Area)
  • Maribel Garza-Haute Innovations Salon owner & operator (Arlington, Texas)
  • Mr. Lemarcus Campbell-Master Technician for National Tire and Battery (Waxahachie Texas) & small business owner for Campbell Automotive Mobile Repair (DFW Area)

GP Countdown to College
GPHS Counselors, Stephanie Satcher and Phillip Burks, provided a guidance lesson on the Countdown to College, emphasizing the importance of knowing the required components of a successful college application. Students were provided the opportunity to consider:

• What a high school resume should look like
• How their GPA is calculated
• An introduction to the various types of financial aid
• An introduction to the college application and financial aid vocabulary, ie-EFC, SAR
• What admission committees look for in a qualified applicant
• How to be purposeful and specific with volunteer hours
  • Establishing relationships

Adams Middle School: Students of Promise

 Adams Middle School in collaboration with The Compelling Why attended a seminar at the University of Texas at Dallas for Students of Promise. These young men discussed keys to success, strategies for surmounting obstacles and specific actions to prepare for establishing and obtaining their goals.

 

GPHS Volunteers

GPHS administrators, counselors, CTE, office staff, and the SISTERS Club adopted 32 residents of the Mt. Creek Estate in Grand Prairie. The facility asked their residents to write down three requests. The simple requests provided all who participated a new perspective of the true meaning of Christmas. Huge thanks to the Grand Prairie Chamber of Commerce who provided us the opportunity to give back to our elderly community.

Garcia KC Club

Yesterday, students, parents and staff gave the gift of service at Mission Arlington. It was great to see students light up as they helped load a food truck and sort clothes for those in need.

Garcia Elementary Partners with GP High Students

Students from the Junior Achievement program give the gift of time and service to our little Toros. They engaged students with lessons about financial literacy, work force readiness, and entrepreneurship. It was a wonderful experience for all, and the Garcia family is grateful for the partnership.

Grand Prairie High School’s Counseling Department is extremely proud to announce that our very own is a contributing author!  Please help us congratulate Mr. Al Marks.  The title of the textbook is called Professional Communication, which is expected to be used on high school campuses throughout the United States.  The textbook is currently available for distribution.
