GPCI College Acceptance

Congratulations to Jordan Spivey, a senior scholar from GPCI. She was accepted to Abilene Christian University, receiving a $36,000 scholarship.

GPISD School Counselor Conference
School counselors from GPISD gathered to attend informative sessions with key topics ranging from technology to healthy choices for youth. Thank you Dana Jackson for such an amazing job of bringing so many professionals together.

Moseley NED Show
Moseley's counselor Beverly Green invited the NED Show to speak to students about making kindness a part of their everyday lives. The NED show focuses on teaching students to never give up, encourage others and do their best.

GPFAA Senior Chats

Senior chats are underway at GPFAA. High school counselor Traci Bragg is meeting with each student to discuss credits, graduation and college plans.

Dickinson Donation Drive for Hurricane Harvey

Dickinson's counselor and community engagement liaison sponsored a drive for victims of Hurricane Harvey. Items collected included new undergarments, toiletries, baby food/formula, bottles, diapers and wipes, and non-perishable food items. All donations will be delivered to the local YMCA in their efforts to provide aid to hurricane victims.

Travis Bully-tin Board

Counselors and members of the Kindness Club proudly display the Bully Bulletin Board, created by the students during their interactive guidance lesson.

Eisenhower College Pay Day
At Eisenhower Elementary, college pays. Teachers and staff wear their college shirts every payday to reinforce the importance of getting a higher education.

Travis Bench
Kindness and compassion are practiced daily at TWLA as students and staff raise money to donate to the newest playground coming to Grand Prairie. TWLA was one of the top three schools that donated the most money for this amazing cause and were presented with a park bench.

De Zavala Blooms
The counselors at De Zavala encourage the students to practice kindness and compassion through kindness games, describing feelings of the heart, and accepting the Rachel's Challenge pledge. Acts of kindness make De Zavala bloom.

Counselors in Action

SGP Seniors Getting Ready

South counselors had their first day of senior chats on Tuesday. Counselors were working with students to ensure that they are on the correct path to graduation. We also have students completing a post-secondary-plans survey using district devices.

GPISD Drug Prevention and Intervention Workshop
GPISD Drug Prevention and Intervention Program, IMPACT Grand Prairie, GPISD LEAP, and The Tony Shotwell Life Center collaborated to bring GPISD parents and the community a drug prevention and intervention workshop for parents. Special thanks to Officer Juan Almazan of UNIDOS Grand Prairie for his presentation and to GPISD School Board member Ms. Gloria Carrillo for her attendance and support. Please Be On the Look Out (BOLO) for the parent workshop at the Dalworth Recreation Center in the spring.

Travis Is a Bullying-Free Zone
Counselors and administrators from TWLA hosted an educational guidance lesson on bullying. Students worked on hands-on activities, such as signing a promise not to bully and creating kindness chains that will be displayed proudly in the hallways. Students learned how to stand up against bullies and the many ways to report bullying, which includes online via our GPISD website.

Helping Hands

GPCI scholars kick off National Suicide Prevention Week by pledging to be a helping hand.


Counselor Megan Hay celebrated Grandparents Day at lunch with a photo booth at Florence Hill on Friday.


Eisenhower Backpacks
The Eisenhower counselors, administrators, teachers, and staff would like to thank the members of CrossPoint Church of Christ for their donations of backpacks and school supplies to help our students. 

Bowie Grandparents Day
In honor of Grandparents Day, Bowie staff invited Grandparents to have lunch with their grandkids. A parent volunteer decorated for the event, and our awesome counselor gave a warm welcome to our grand visitors.

Williams College a Day
Wonderful Williams showed pride in their education by wearing college shirts. Staff helped increase student awareness of higher education and a future of success by wearing college and university attire. The counselor Tonya Womack Campbell will continue with "A College a Day" announcements, highlighting each staff member's college experience. This, coupled with the District's "Cradle to Careers" initiative by the counseling department, will help students learn about possible areas of expertise and college attendance.

GPHS Meet the Teacher Night

The GPHS counselors kicked off the first GPHS Meet the Teacher Night by greeting parents and providing parents with their child's schedule, the counselor's monthly newsletter Gopher Gazette, and Skyward login access.

Wonderful Williams Held an Awesome and Informative Parent Orientation 
The orientation was led by counselor Tonya Womack Campbell. A parent workshop on reading and writing strategies with presenter Jessica Henson (Instructional Specialist) was also on the agenda. Social worker Ruth Amaro and community liaison Rosanelda Foo provided parents with resources and information to support their students' success. Mr. Rogelio Bucio was present as a vendor from Parkland Hospital. He provided health information and resources for parents and their families. Parents were able to take new books for their students. Principal Ami Potts and Assistant Principal Magdalena Garcia were also in attendance.

Suicide Prevention Week at Reagan

Reagan Middle School recognized Suicide Prevention Week by wearing yellow to show support for prevention. The counselors passed out cards to the student body that said "Ask4Help-See a Counselor."


Daniels Great Night

We had a great turnout for PTA/Student Lead Conference Night. Students shared great things they have learned so far, and parents won prizes for supporting our PTA. Thank you to the PTA, teachers, students, and parents for making this an awesome event.


Suicide Prevention Week at GP
GPHS/GPECHS counselors bring awareness to National Suicide Prevention by providing handouts and academic incentives. It's a Gopheriffic Wednesday.

Moseley Staff of the Month

Congratulations to our counselor, Ms. Beverly Green, for being chosen as Moseley Staff of the Month for September. Ms. Green always goes above and beyond for the students and staff.

Suicide Prevention Week at GPFAA

The faculty and students wore purple and teal to represent those who have lost a loved one to suicide and those who still struggle with depression.  Thank you to our counselors for providing meaningful guidance this week on suicide prevention.

Moseley CKH Art
Each student at Moseley Elementary wrote at least one word on a notecard to describe themselves while creating their Capturing Kids' Hearts social contracts in specials. The cards were assembled together in art under the direction of Ms. Adriana Martinez, a student teacher from UTA, who is currently working with Ms. Bishop, Moseley's Visual Arts Specialist. Two of these pieces were created and are on display outside of the school library.


Moseley Handprints on Hearts

Moseley's annual Handprints on Hearts Kickoff was a huge success. Students had a blast spending time with and getting to know their mentors. Many thanks to our staff mentors for everything you continue to do for our students.

Florence Hill Hurricane Help

Counselor Megan Hay delivered school supplies that Florence Hill collected after Hurricane Harvey to former GPISD employee Vanessa Diggs at Weber Elementary in Clear Creek ISD. 

Jackson Suicide Prevention Week
The Jackson Eagles counselors kicked off National Suicide Prevention Week through classroom guidance. During these lessons, they introduced their counseling department and brought awareness to this important topic. Jackson also hosted a Suicide Prevention rally/concert for their students to kick off a year of positive thinking.


Lee Hurricane Efforts
The counselors Latrice Todd and Rickeshea Todd at Lee collaborated with the art teacher Mr. Nguyen where all students made cards for kids affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Wonderful Williams Counselor

Wonderful Williams counselor Tonya Womack Campbell provided guidance lessons to approximately 700 students. The counselor wore GPISD/conference counseling shirts to help students connect the role of the school counselor, the importance of kindness, bullying prevention, and their job as a successful student.

Bowie Mind, Body, and Soul
Singer/songwriter and founder of the Wezmore Project Eddie Coker visited Bowie Elementary to share his powerful message of promoting a healthy mind, body, and soul. 


Garcia Grandparents
Spending time with grandparents is always fun. Garcia Elementary had a great turn out for their "loteria" with your "abuelita" day.

Counselor News!



Travis World Language Academy Cares
The counselors were super excited to join in on helping out the pets that were devastated by Hurricane Harvey. The Kindness and Compassion Club sponsored a donation drive and collected much needed items that will be donated to a local shelter.

Rachel's Challenge Kick Off at Eisenhower 

Eisenhower Cougars pledged to show their kindness and compassion to all their peers and educators. Our P.E., art and music teachers truly love what they do by supporting and collaborating with their counselors to implement our Rachel's Challenge assemblies.

UTA visits GPCI

School counselor Mrs. Swanigan invited UTA rep Mrs. Jimenez to talk with the juniors and seniors. She went over admission requirements and their amazing engineering program.

Eisenhower Rachel's Challenge Kick Off 

Our parent liaison Ms. Delfin, principal Dr. Handcock and Eisenhower counselors love what we do by bringing our parent volunteers to support our Rachel's Challenge kick off.
