We love our students!



Counselor Mrs. Lopez at Travis World Language Academy is excited to start her Career Cruising Club for the new school year.


De Zavala counselors Mrs. Glover and Ms. McGriff have conducted introduction lessons with all of Kindergarten and now first grade. Students have learned about all the areas in which they can help. They also assisted students in creating beginning of the year goals that will be revisited in the middle of the year. We are looking forward to an amazing year!

Meet your Substance Abuse Counselors.  Mrs. Wright and Ms. Lewis are working hard to promote drug-free living across all campuses in GPISD.



To promote college and career readiness, De Zavala Counselors Nedin Glover and Evetta McGriff have implemented College Pride Day. Every fourth Friday of each month, students and staff are encouraged to show their college and university spirit.

Grand Prairie High School Counselors kicked off their Counselors in the Café series this week by being available Monday and Tuesday during lunches for students to meet with them about credits, transcripts, their skyward access, and scheduling options.

YMLA Bullying Prevention Video
The counseling team of Randle and Campbell at YMLA are kicking things off with virtual media messages. The counselors gave students a sneak peak at upcoming bullying prevention lessons to come.  Students and Staff also received "Is this bullying?" scenarios for practice. Kindness Matters in GPISD



Counselor Megan Hay added some positive phrases and encouraging words to the walls of Florence Hill.
 

Dubiski Business Pathway Juniors gave their perceptions of a  'Dubiski Student' (activity). They are already setting the bar for behavior and expectations for the 2018-2019 school year!

Counseling Services News



Juniors and seniors from Grand Prairie Collegiate Institute started their first day of classes this week at The University of Texas at Arlington.

 

Tamara Collins at Whitt has been having a great time sharing with students about her role as their counselor.  On this day, she was with kindergarten students letting them know how much she cares about them and that she is here to help them.
 

De Zavala Counselors Evetta McGriff and Nedin Glover received school supplies again this year from CrossPoint Church of Christ in Grand Prairie. Included in the three large boxes were backpacks, spirals, folders, and other supplies our students will use. We are so excited to share them with our students!

Moseley's counselor, Beverly Green, gladly accepts the second donation of school supplies this school year from the Woods United Methodist Church.

 

School Counselor Mrs. Swanigan hosted her second Annual College Workshop. The new incoming seniors were able to complete college applications, register for ACT/SAT, and start their scholarship search. They had college representatives and advisors present on important topics related to college planning.

Crosswinds counselor Danita Peterman supported Special Olympics and Tip-a-Cop with former GPHS student Charlene Niero and Officer Dearing.


 


A great day of learning - counselors and social workers take part in Trauma-Informed (TBRI) training. We are excited to share these wonderful skills & interventions with our campus staff, students and parents.



GPISD counselors are ready to serve all students for the upcoming 2018-19 school year as they trained for two days at Dallas Baptist University to ensure that every child will be successful emotionally, socially and academically.

Dubiski School Counseling Services Department met with Dubiski's BPA Officers and got to know the amazing hardworking students and the opportunities BPA gives them.





Ochoa STEM Counselors Staff Development

Ochoa Counselors Leticia Malena and Ana Torres assisted in creating games and ideas for their school's staff development and presented their Counselor Orientation, CPS & Suicide reporting. Prizes were given as staff got to know each other and played Jeopardy in answering questions related to their presentations.
