Counselor News



Education is Freedom held a College & Career Event at Reagan Middle School. The representatives were very helpful in identifying the interests of our Knights. Thank you all, especially to Bria Whitaker, for providing our students this great opportunity.


David Daniels Elementary celebrated Earth Day with a parade and the KC and Garden Clubs cleaned out the David Daniels garden.

Counselors' Corner



GPISD 
Counseling Services, Health Services, and the Bilingual/ESL Departments surprised their Administrative Assistants with a luncheon on Wednesday, April 25.  They received cards, food, desserts, and laughter.  Thank you, ladies, for all that you do to help us to be the best we can be.  Your dedication to these departments has not gone unnoticed.  You are appreciated today and every day.

Eisenhower Elementary
congratulates Diamond Torrez. She received Honorable Mention in the CTE Career Poster Contest for her wonderful poster of a Navy Nurse. Her cousin is currently in the Navy and Diamond wants to be a Navy Nurse to help her cousin and others that are in the Navy. Way to go, Diamond. We are all very proud of you.

Career Fair was a successful event giving all students an opportunity to learn about colleges, careers and how to be successful in high school.

Endorsement Signing Night at Adams Middle School

Adams Middle School Counselors, Schavonda Burton-Johnson and Monica Soliz, and EIF Rep. Paisley Martin hosted an endorsement signing night. Parents and student received helpful information on financial aid, career cruising & endorsements.

De Zavala Job Shadow Day
Six De Zavala 5th graders were selected to participate in job shadowing. They completed an application and resume and submitted them to counselors Nedin Glover and Evetta McGriff. The students were then interviewed and received their hiring notices. Congratulations to our future teachers and administrators.

De Zavala Month of Service 

Month of service at De Zavala also known as "The Ultimate Garbage Challenge." Students in Kinder - Fifth grade picked up trash around the school during their recess time. Counselors Nedin Glover and Evetta McGriff will reward the grade level that picked up the most trash during the challenge. Our school grounds are clean and students enjoyed being a part of the process.

The counselor Tonya Womack Campbell at Wonderful Williams Elementary School organized a Flip This Garden day as the April Day of Service event.  Students, staff, and parents came together along with the Kindness and Compassion Club, Art Club, and Garden Club to beautify their school garden. The garden has bird feeding, plant growing, fish pond, compost, and learning area for students to enjoy.  Every student painted rocks to put in their garden as part of the There's Only One You project. Go Wolves!

South counselors would like to thank all of the 125 students who participated in our campus Day of Service.  It was a wonderful event organized by a member of our counseling team, Maria Solano.

Reagan Collects for a Cure

Reagan Middle School's NJHS and Knights of Kindness students have joined forces to find a cure for blood cancer. Over the next three weeks our school will be collecting coins in donation boxes from the students at Reagan.  The money we raise will help fund researchers in seven different countries.


Travis Thanks Volunteers

To be a volunteer, it takes generosity and the willingness to give your time to others . Our volunteers are appreciated for giving their time and talents to the students of Travis World Language Academy. Thank you so much.


Marshall Kindness Is Magic

Students at Marshall Leadership Academy had an amazing time watching the magic act called Kindness Is Magic: an Anti-Bullying Assembly, made possible by Fielder Church and Rafael Rondon's Magic Show. After the show, students did a writing response about their learning.

Moseley Job Shadow Interviews
Some Moseley third graders nervously waited for interviews to begin for the opportunity to job shadow the principal, assistant principal, nurse, custodian and counselor.

Fannin Drug Prevention & Awareness

School counselor Mrs. Sanders and Mr. Pratt from Dallas Challenge hosted a Drug Prevention & Awareness Parent Night to educate students and parents about drug prevention.

Moseley Pennies for Patients

Mrs. Francis' first grade class at Moseley is learning and helping other children at the same time as they count the money they have collected for Pennies for Patients.

Child Abuse Prevention Month

Every April, Alliance for Children has events, programs and activities to raise awareness of child abuse in Tarrant County.

GPCI STEM Showcase
GPCI's STEM Showcase was a huge success. One of our very own received a check from Lockheed Martin for placing 3rd in the nationwide Generation Beyond Challenge.

 

GP Cleanup
On Friday GPHS and GPECHS students completed a campus cleanup near the park. Approximately 25 students dedicated their time and efforts to this grand event.

The Reagan Knights of Kindness are celebrating the April Month of Service by joining the nationwide campaign of "10 on Tuesday." Students are pledging to pick up at least 10 pieces of trash around the school, home and community in order to remove litter that pollutes our environment.

Kindergarten students at Ochoa are picking up trash around their school in honor of Earth Day. 


GPFAA Senior Breakfast
The GPFAA counselors hosted a senior breakfast. The motivational speaker was Andre Mills, who is a best-selling author and former All-American basketball player. A huge thanks to PTA and Whataburger for providing food.


DAEP Cleans Up 

Johnson DAEP students and staff pitched in to help clean up the campus following a litter prevention presentation by Amanda Lindbergh from the City's Keep Grand Prairie Beautiful campaign coordinated by counselor Rhona Rosenthal.

Reagan Celebrates Earth Day
In honor of Earth Day, Mr. Myers' Leadership class participated in cleaning up around the Reagan Middle School campus. They found an array of items, which the always-teaching Mr. Myers used as a learning opportunity for recycling.

Williams Guest Speaker 
City Councilman Mike Del Bosque paid a visit to Wonderful Williams Elementary School. Mr. Del Bosque gave students encouragement and motivation to work through all obstacles on and off the field. Councilman Del Bosque also had his daughter Victoria and son Michael speak about overcoming their own personal struggles to persevere in academic and athletic areas.

Counselors at TWLA hosted The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society student fundraising. Olive Garden presented the winning classrooms with an amazing spaghetti dinner.


Adams Mothers and Daughters

Adams counselors Schavonda Burton-Johnson and Monica Soliz facilitated a relationship seminar for mothers and daughters. They received helpful strategies to assist them with improving communication and tips to empower mothers and daughters to strive to achieve their goals. Video Slideshow.

Kindness ROCKS!!

Austin Keeps Grand Prairie Beautiful

Austin Elementary students came rushing back to school so excited to help Keep Grand Prairie Beautiful.  The Kindness and Compassion club along with the Theatre club showed what they have learned throughout the year about kindness and compassion through Rachel's Challenge by participating in the April Month of Service. The counselor, Mrs. Regalzi, put together several Days of Service by helping pick up trash at their playground.  The students are helping to make Grand Prairie and their school a clean, green, and beautiful place to live, work, and play.


Travis Rocks Kindness

Counselors at TWLA conducted a "Kindness Rock Guidance Lesson." Students used their creativity as they painted words of kindness and encouragement on the rocks. These rocks will be used to beautify the school garden for all to enjoy.
