Careers & Holiday Cheer



Powell 5th graders did a great job presenting to the rest of the student body at our Wax Museum Career Fair.


Lee Elementary 4th and 5th graders presented their career projects to their peers as they shared their future interest.


GPFAA’s Friends of Rachel Club visited a local nursing home and spread some holiday cheer today—decorating doors.

De Zavala Future Careers

De Zavala’s fourth graders did a great job researching their future careers and presenting to our second graders. The students listened and asked great questions.

SGP Senior Giving Day

The first Senior Giving Day was a success. Seniors donated lots of cans for the North Texas Food Bank. 

Garcia GenTX Week
During GenTX Week Garcia students were engaged as they learned about college and careers through classroom activities, morning announcements, Career Cruising with the counselor, and peer-to-peer presentations. Thank you for the support of the wonderful staff.

Adams counselors partner with Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. on their Thanksgiving baskets giveaway.


GPFAA Thanksgiving Dinners

We did it - we met our goal. The GPFAA phamily came through and provided Thanksgiving dinners for more than 50 GPISD families in need.

Bush Coats
Big thanks to Frito Lay for their donation of coats to the Global Leadership Academy at Bush Elementary. Our students will be nice and warm all winter long with these beautiful coats.

Fannin GenTX Week

TEAM UP WITH ADAMS MS


Adams Middle School Counselors organized an awesome Texas Scholars Event. They teamed up with Beth Rustenhaven, Dubiski Career High School and members of the community to provide 8th grade students with information about planning for high school, college and beyond.

GP Pie When You Apply

GPHS counselors support the GPHS college and career readiness campaign Pie When You Apply, supporting and encouraging students with applications for both colleges/universities and scholarships.

Fifth Grade Presentations at De Zavala
The fifth graders of De Zavala researched their future careers and presented it to different third grade classes. The students did an awesome job.


De Zavala Food Drive
Volunteers from the Grand Prairie Food & Clothing Co-Op picked up 29 full boxes of food items from De Zavala. Our Feeding the Community food drive, sponsored by KC Club, was successful, thanks to support from parents, students, and staff.

Fannin College Fair
This week at Fannin MS, the students are focused on their future plans for college and career. On Wednesday, the eighth grade AVID students hosted a student-led college fair for all sixth graders. Many new dreams and goals were set.


Powell Students Give Back

Powell Elementary counselor Kelley Meeks partnered with the Grand Prairie Fire Department to organize a campus-wide food drive. The food will benefit families in Grand Prairie through the Santa Spot organization. Our second graders were very excited to hear they brought in the largest amount of donations. We are Palomino Proud of our counselor, staff and students.

Bush Coffee and Conversation
The Global Leadership parents came out for Coffee and Conversation with the counselor and principal. It was an excellent opportunity to talk about the anti-bullying campaign and how to help struggling readers. We had a great turnout.

Fannin GenTX Week
Officers Hodges and Gonzales with the GP police department speak with Fannin seventh graders about perseverance and responsibility to achieve future goals for GenTX Week.

SGP Owns Their Future

The SGP counselors and College & Career Center staff presented Owning My Future: A Parent & Student Planning Workshop. Topics included interest in taking Dual Credit or AP level classes for next school year, applying for scholarships/financial aid, how to get automatic admission to UTA, tips on preparing for high school graduation, how to utilize Career Cruising, and when to start applying for colleges. We love that our Warriors want to own their future.

GenTX Week at De Zavala

Students in PPCD-3rd grade at De Zavala researched different colleges during GenTX Week and posted them outside their classrooms. Students then went on a college gallery walk to learn about the different schools. Mrs. McCartney’s 3rd grade class took time to check our college pennant wheel.


GenTX Week at DAEP
Middle school students at DAEP got to hear from several speakers about various careers during GenTX Week as a follow up to their Career Cruising lessons and endorsement selection. High school students got to ask questions about the Mountain View Community College admission process and about FAFSA.

Our scholars continue celebrating and loving what we do by dressing up in their future careers, making college applications and using Career Cruising websites to research about career and colleges with their parents.

 

Bright Future at Williams

Wonderful Williams students are ready for a bright future. Our fourth and fifth graders completed research projects exploring their college and career choices. Students used the district Career Cruising database to gather information to present to students in K-3rd grade. We had doctors, vets, professional athletes, scientists, engineers, teachers, and more coming from many universities all over the world.

Williams GenTX Week

Hobbs Williams did it up Wolf Pack style for GenTX Week. Students, staff, and parents showed Paw Pride in preparing for the future of our students. Students and staff dressed in their dream careers, dressed for success, represented their school, and prepared for their graduation. Go, Wolves!

The students at the Global Leadership Academy at Bush Elementary dressed up to show their future professional goals and aspirations. The Bush staff was thrilled to see our future airline pilots and paleontologists preparing to rule the world.

For our theme “When I Grow Up," students at De Zavala showed their creativity. From athletes to zoologists, students dressed up for their future careers.


Career Cruising Workshop

Counselors from Florence Hill, Hobbs Williams and Lee Elementary join forces as they introduce students and families to Career Cruising in recognition of GenTX Week.


GPFAA College Fair

GPFAA counselors organized a mini college fair for students during Thursday’s lunch. Representatives from FDIM College, Texas A&M, UTA, UNT, Cornell University, Lawrence Technological University, Texas Tech, and the Art Institutes came out to share information with our students.

Students from SHG celebrate GenTX / College and Career Week by wearing their graduation cap and gown to promote high expectations and reaching their future goals.


Kindness at Williams

The Wolf Pack at Wonderful Williams exemplified compassion with their Covering with Kindness event. Students, staff, and parents donated warm blankets to those less fortunate just in time for the cooler temperatures. Members of Mrs. Defilippo's kindergarten class donated the most items and received a popcorn/juice party from their counselor. Counselor Tonya Womack Campbell and Hobbs Williams' Boy Scouts sponsored the event.

Adams Middle School counselors organized theme days to celebrate GenTX Week - hats off to education.

GPHS AVID Prepares
GPHS counselors presented to AVID 9 on Wednesday. The presentations included a PowerPoint presentation and discussions about HB5 graduation requirements.

Williams GenTX Week
Wonderful Williams has kicked off GenTX Week with a big Wolf Pack howl. Students dressed in their dream jobs, made college and career portfolios, created dream job stories, and went cruising for careers on the innovative career cruising database. Counselor Tonya Womack Campbell coordinated GenTX Week activities and led students in college and career guidance lessons. Stay tuned for more from the Wolf Pack.

Dubiski GenTX Week
Dubiski celebrates GenTX Week by introducing blended learning to AVID students. Students participated in a Texas Reality Check activity and lessons on Career Cruising.
