National School Counseling Week Fact
School counselors follow the Texas Education Agency guidelines to provide services under the four components of a comprehensive counseling program. These include Guidance Curriculum, Responsive Services, Individual Planning, and System Support (TEC 33.005).
Our school counselors work hard to address all the needs of our students in GPISD from Cradle to Career. Please check out our Counseling Services Blog.

GPFAA Counselors
The GPFAA counselors support student achievement in GPISD by meeting with the families of our newest Phantoms to guide them through the seven-year academic plan, HB5 endorsement and Pre-AP requirements.

Williams Career Day

Counselors support students' dreams through career exploration, research, and planning.
Counselor Tonya Womack Campbell at wonderful Williams Elementary hosted Career Day. Guests provided students with information on obtaining a career, what educational skills they needed, and how starting early would benefit them in their future. Guests included marketing, accounting, cosmetology, a financial analyst, a park ranger, law enforcement, and even a millionaire who went to Grand Prairie Schools.

Florence Hill Career Day

Florence Hill Elementary had a great career day. It was educational, informative, and fun. The students and staff enjoyed all of our speakers.

Daniels Career Interest

Counselors support achievement in GPISD by hosting a Career Interest Clinic. On the 100th day of school, students at David Daniels Elementary worked with Mrs. Mays to discover what their interests are and to what career pathways those are related.

Moore Elementary counselor Tamara Collins is excited about kicking off National School Counselors Week and celebrating the 100th day of school. She looks forward to greeting students every morning. In this photo, she and students are dressed like 100-year-olds.

Reagan Visits De Zavala

De Zavala counselors Ms. McGriff and Mrs. Glover brought in a special guest for all fifth graders. Students got a visit from Reagan Middle School counselor Ms. Wright. They received important information about becoming a Reagan Knight. Students had lots of questions about their middle school transition.

De Zavala Caps for Kids

The KC Club along with counselors Mrs. Glover and Ms. McGriff organized Caps for Kids day at De Zavala. Students donated money to be able to wear a hat all day during school. Money collected went to the Caps for Kids organization that helps children battling cancer. Way to go, Lions!

Career Day & the Kindness Club



David Daniels students are engaged by the many careers presented at career day.


De Zavala Kindness Club Donates

The KC Club at De Zavala along with counselors Mrs. Glover and Ms. McGriff sponsored a drive during the month of January, "Warming the Hearts of Our Community." Students were encouraged to donate clothing items that would keep our community members warm. The items collected will go toward Beat the Streets outreach and will be distributed to those in need.

The students at Powell Elementary had a great time at their career day and heard a great variety of speakers.



Moseley Parents Recognized

The Moseley Elementary staff and students would like to recognize an amazing group of parents who have gone above and beyond to help our school. The parents in this picture donated building materials, supplies, and their labor over the summer to put a roof on our garden pergola so we can use it year round for outdoor learning. This was definitely a labor of love. The parents were honored at our monthly Thunder Rally on Friday.

Austin Career Day

Austin’s Career Day was a success, with professionals ranging from a realtor, police officer, social workers, professional counselor, and more, as well as students from Dubiski Career High School presenting information to students regarding their career pathways. Austin students were eager to engage and learn, and our guests had a great time as well.


Mayor Visits Powell
Thank you to Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen for visiting Powell this morning to recognize our Cotton Bowl Classic Art Contest winners during our pride rally. He also shared with all of our students the great importance of hard work and a good education.

Mrs. Tai Mays from David Daniels Elementary Academy of Math and Science received the Bronze Ready Award at the Lone Star State School Conference for Discipline and Behavior. Wow.

Dana Jackson Director of Counseling Services did an outstanding job at the School Counselor's Conference in Frisco. She presented pertinent information to participants in advocating for counseling programs all across Texas.

Elementary Career Days


Rayburn Career Day
Rayburn STEAM students were visited by a pilot, a chiropractor, an animator, and a Jiu Jitsu instructor. The students were very engaged.



Career Day at Eisenhower
Our fourth and fifth grade scholars had a great day last Friday, enjoying appearances from our guests representing Grand Prairie Police Department, Grand Prairie Fire Department, Grand Prairie Better Business Bureau, Grand Prairie Libraries, Federal Bureau of Prisons, Dubiski Graphic Design, Cosmetology and Business career paths. Also, Dr. Espino MD, Dr. Cooper DNV, attorney Madalyn Wells, Mrs. Esmeralda Rodriguez, Mrs. Marissa Rodriguez from Liberty Tax Marketing, Chef Mrs. Talamantes and Mr. Scott Haltom from National Guard.


Career Day at De Zavala

Ms. McGriff and Mrs. Glover, counselors at De Zavala exposed students to more than 20 careers during career day. Students were able to hear about and ask questions on potential future careers.


Lee Career Day

Several city and district employees arranged their schedule to spend time with Lee students at our career day. Their willingness to share their secret to success with our staff and students about their career was one of the main ingredients to making it a success.



Dickinson Career Day

Dickinson Elementary welcomed many community members to share with students what it takes to be successful doing what you love.


Garner Career Day
There's no better career day than the ones at GFAA. From civil service workers to costume makers, our students enjoyed the presentations of over 20 fantastic speakers. Garner would like to thank all of our community and parent volunteers for making Friday a huge success.

YMLA Thank You Letters

YMLA is committed to random acts of kindness and service through writing. During advisory, the young men wrote thank you letters to our cafeteria and custodial staff and presented them Friday.

Williams Warm Soles Drive

Wonderful Williams KC (Kindness and Compassion Club) Club has done it again. Students, staff, and parents donated socks for the Warm Soles Drive. Donations will be given to the Arlington Life Shelter. Sponsors for the KC Club include Zynab Saad, Sherrita Calvin-Robinson, Lauren Wirth and counselor Tonya Womack Campbell.

Naval Academy Visits GPFAA

Gavin Sanchez, a Midshipman 3rd Class Naval Academy sophomore, stopped by GPFAA to visit with students who may be interested in applying to any of the military service academies, and spoke of the experiences he's had so far while attending USNA.

Lee Elementary KC Club started the year out right by setting goals and dreaming big.


SGP Scholarship Workshop
Thursday night SGPHS College and Career Center staff held a scholarship workshop and had 37 seniors turn out to fill out scholarships for college.

Careers & Spreading Cheer



Garcia students and staff helped spread holiday cheer to our furry friends at Prairie Paws.



Ms. Horne's third grade class at Austin Elementary show off their posters about their future careers.




Marshall Santa for Soldiers
Marshall Leadership Academy students and staff sent about 20 boxes of goods in a drive called Santa for Soldiers to oversees troops. This project was lead by the counselor Mrs. JimĂ©nez and Ms. Flores, 1st grade teacher.


GPISD Students Give Back to Animals and the Elderly



3rd graders at GFAA held a Towels for Tails drive to collect towels for the animals at Prairie Paws.


Eisenhower KC Club
Eisenhower KC Club members and mentors make jingle necklaces for several nursing homes and senior centers. The Eisenhower Show Choir will deliver them when they go sing at the nursing homes and senior centers.

Kindness & College



GPFAA Kindness Week
GPFAA’s secretary Mrs. McNeff, Vocal Music student Jaylon, and Assistant Principal Mr. Lopez were caught being kind by GPFAA’s counseling team during Kindness Week. Way to be great examples for us all.

Florence Hill Gives

Florence Hill Elementary and the Florence Hill Student Council/KC Club would like to thank Santa Cop and Santa Spot for the opportunity to help families in our community. We had a successful food drive and toy drive. Also, we would like to thank the police officers, volunteers, and community members for all that they do for our families in Grand Prairie.

GPFAA Visits UT
High school art strand students from GPFAA are enjoying their college tour during Fine Arts Week. Yesterday, they got to stop by UT.

Dubiski Friends of Rachel’s Club

During Kindness Week, the Friends of Rachel’s Club at Dubiski joined forces with the 9th grade AVID class and participated in arts and crafts activities with Marshall Elementary kindergarten classes.

Cause for Paws at Lee

Kindness Club from Lee Elementary show cooperation as they team up to support the City of Grand Prairie animal shelter with much needed items.


Holiday Cheer



The counselors cozy up with Santa after another successful year with Santa Cop.

GPFAA’s counselors had a blast helping out at Santa Cop last night.


De Zavala Toy Drive
De Zavala’s KC Club sponsored our first toy drive, and it was a big success. All of the toys were donated to the district’s Connections Program. Our students were excited to share toys with others.

Powell Santa Cop
The Colin Powell Student Council sold gourmet popcorn so they could go to Walmart and buy $600 worth of gifts for teenagers donated to Santa Cop. A big shout out to the awesome Walmart employees that were so patient and kind. Thank you Powell family for helping us achieve our goal.

Moore Holiday Cheer

Sallye Moore students and staff brought holiday cheer to residents at Mt. Creek Retirement Center as they sang Christmas carols and gave gifts of socks and Christmas cards to the residents.
