Giving Thanks

 

Rayburn's 1st grade co-Champions in Mrs. Gomez's class enjoys their Pasta for Pennies lunch to celebrate the money raised for a good cause.

 

YWLA Giving

During this month of giving, YWLA High School ladies participated in the Acts of Joy North Texas Food Bank. Our girls donated over 720 canned goods for those who are in need. Thank you for coming on your day off and helping us deliver. We also want to thank Mrs. Horton who organized our partnership with Pure Salon and Acts of Joy.

 

GP Early College Thanksgiving

The Friends of Rachel’s Club and the students of GPECHS participated in the Santa Cop Food Drive. The students donated 10 boxes of non-perishable items. The Student Council sponsored the “We are Thankful” activity.  

 

 

GP Thanksgiving

The need for Thanksgiving meals was so great that GP ran out. GPHS Counselors could not say no to that last family and pitched in to provide their meal, including the turkey and ham.

 

 

Crosswinds/HOPE Get REAL

Crosswinds High School-HOPE Academy students volunteer through the REAL (Real Education Accelerated Learning) program designed to develop students outside the classroom to be productive, responsible and active citizens in the real world. Everyone has a unique gift. We will help you find yours.

GEN TX-Career Week

 

 

 

Moseley students show their determination for finishing school and going to college by wearing their cap and gown for GenTx Week.

 

Mayor Ron Jensen was Fannin's guest presenter at an assembly for 7th graders for GenTX Week.

 

 

We have high hopes for our future career goals. Students at Seguin are dressed for success as we finish up our GenTex College & Career celebration.

 

The counselors at GPFAA hosted the first financial aid night of the year with guest speaker Ray Person from Texas A&M.

 

Yesterday, SGP9's journalism class visited The Dallas Morning News and WFAA studio. They met Marcus Moore.

 


Fannin GenTX Week

Speakers from the City of Grand Prairie spoke to students at Fannin MS for GenTX Week about different careers. Appreciation to Gina Alley with the City of Grand Prairie for coordinating the event with counselors at Fannin.

 

GP Career Cruising

The College & Career Center & the GPHS counselors packed up the computers to make Career Cruising more accessible to students during all three lunches. Every student who logged into Career Cruising received a treat.

 

SGP9 GenTX

All SGP9 freshmen were guided through Career Cruising for the past month, and this past Tuesday night we had a Freshman Fair promoting college and career readiness featuring Citlali Molina-CTE Counselor, UTA, AVID, & our Academic Leadership Team.

 


GP Scholarships

Counselor, Mrs. Borton presented to a full house of students during 3rd, 4th & 6th period. The topic was “How to Write an Award-Winning Scholarship Essay.”

 

GEN TX- Career Week


Pre-K students at Moseley Elementary dressed up in helping career uniforms for GenTx Week.

 

Peer-to-peer career fair research projects were presented by 4th grade students to 2nd grade students at GFAA today.

 

Sallye Moore students illustrated the setting for their future and pasted a picture of themselves acting out their career.

Powell Wax Museum of Careers

Fifth graders auditioned, rehearsed and performed different careers at Powell this morning. They were frozen until you pressed their button. Then they came to life to educate K–4th graders on their specific careers, including what high school and post-secondary schools to attend. See more pictures here

 

 


GPECHS GenTX

GP Early College High School students are fans of Career Cruising. Students completed the Career Matchmaker, explored Careers from their Matchmaker results, and began building their portfolios.

HOPE Speaker

Jordan Boone with Nationten Brand was here at HOPE today to share a message of “HOPE” to the student body. He just turned 21 years old last month.

He came to share “Everything Is Achievable.” He is the President/CEO of this apparel company. He has been in business for three years.

Generation Texas Week @ Dickinson Elem.

Dickinson Elementary kicked off Generation Texas Week with staff members wearing their graduation caps and gowns! We also have parents sending in "Work Selfies" to create a bulletin board and will have a "College Spotlight" fact finding game! Cruising for Careers @ Austin Elem.



Awesome Austin Elementary is cruising for careers. Fourth and fifth graders used Career Cruising to research college and career information for peer share Career projects. These students will be presenting their finished Career projects to grades prek-3rd on Friday November 20th.

Texas Scholars Day at GPFAA

Texas Scholars Day at GPFAA was a huge success!  Dr. Ortiz, a parent and professor at UT Tyler, spoke to 8th graders about overcoming obstacles and reaching their goals.  She emphasized how attainable college is for ALL of our students!  This was the perfect kick off event for GenTX and Career Cruising Week!

More NOVA Trained Counselors in GPISD

Several GPISD Counselors completed their NOVA Basic CRT training today.  Thank you Region 10 for the opportunity!!!

 National Organization for Victims Assistance (NOVA) Crisis Response Team (CRT) training has nearly thirty years (since 1986) of evidence-informed and field-tested best practices as a crisis management utility that includes trauma mitigation and education protocols. With over ten thousand trained in North America and internationally, NOVA CRT training is an effective tool that can be instantly scaled-up for mass-casualty critical incidents.

Moore Students Show They Care
We are proud of our students at Sallye Moore Elementary for showing how much they care.  The KC Club spearheaded a canned/boxed food drive that lasted two weeks and our students donated 1,153 cans and boxed food. Mrs. Hegwer’s 2nd grade class donated the most items – 153 cans. They are pictured with Firefighter Ross, Mrs. Hegwer, and their Counselor, Ms. Collins.  The food items were donated to the Grand Prairie Santa Spot organization.

During our Rachel's Challenge Green/Clean-Up day, students watched the Rachel's Challenge video during their guidance lesson. Next, they excitedly picked up trash around the entire school. In addition, the KC Club: Caring Character Captains & Empowerment Team had an opportunity to learn the proper way to maintain vegetable gardens. Our magnificent gardening teacher, Mrs. Hayton, taught the insightful lesson. Thanks to the Rachel's Challenge Green/Clean up Day; we were given another marvelous way to show kindness.

We had a Take Care of Texas day at GPCI today. It was Wear Green for all of our scholars, but our Green and Clean Club worked in the Garden today on composting, moving lumber and decorating pumpkins for centerpieces for our Thanksgiving luncheon on Wednesday. We also asked scholars to submit a 30-second video on how they recycle at home.
